User Accounts
UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff are eligible for a GIF user account at no charge.
Account Benefits
- Login to computers in 111 and 124 Mulford Hall using CalNet authentication
- Access a private network folder (Z:\\ drive) supporting up to 10 GB of data, accessible from any GIF computer
- Licensed GIS and remote sensing software including ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, ENVI, Erdas Imagine, and more
- Registration for GIF workshops and training events
Eligibility & Policies
GIF user accounts are available at no cost to currently enrolled UC Berkeley students and active UC Berkeley faculty and staff with a valid CalNet ID.
All Facility use must be related to a UC project or coursework — personal or commercial use is not permitted. Data stored on workstation hard drives is not private and may be deleted; always back up to the network drive or an external drive.
As a courtesy, please acknowledge the GIF in any publications that have benefited from our support: "This research benefited from the support and services of UC Berkeley's Geospatial Innovation Facility (GIF), gif.berkeley.edu."

How to Register
Fill out the online account registration form. You will receive confirmation of your account within a few business days. Once activated, your CalNet username and password may be used to log in to GIF computers.
