GIF maintains professional GIS hardware in 111 Mulford Hall for use by the UC Berkeley research community.
GIS Workstations
The GIF lab houses high-performance Windows workstations optimized for GIS and remote sensing workflows.
- High-end multi-core processors
- Large, calibrated monitors for cartographic work
- Dedicated GPUs for 3D rendering and spatial analysis
- Full suite of GIS software pre-installed (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, ENVI)
Large-Format Plotter
GIF operates a 42-inch large-format printer for producing high-quality maps and posters for academic and research use.

GIF offers equipment loan for fieldwork and data collection:
- GPS units (handheld, sub-meter accuracy)
- Field tablets for data collection
Large-Format Scanner
GIF has a large-format scanner for digitizing paper maps, aerial photographs, and other oversized documents for geospatial analysis.
Access Requirements
Access to GIF hardware in 111 Mulford Hall requires the following:
GIF User Account
A valid GIF user account is required to log into lab workstations and use GIF resources.
